Today we all climbed Alpe d’Huez along with many thousands of others from around the globe. Riding it a day before the race comes through ( this year two ascents over its 21 switchbacks) is quite a surreal experience – no more so than for first time riders of the Alp when the Tour is in town. The passion and the eccentricity on the side of the road is an experience to truly saviour. No reason to try to beat Marco Pantani’s 39 minute time to ascent the climb (how did he do that!), rather soak up every metre. One of our riders who truly did this to perfection was Murray McPherson. Murray stopped half way up the climb on Dutch corner and had a beer with the hysteric army of supporters all decked out in orange! How’s that for panache? For its performance we now have him as our Yellow Jersey! Tomorrow we are riding to the switchback number 6 to watch the most highly anticipated stage of this years historic Tour. We can all hardly wait…
