  • The Dolomites

The Dolomites are truly jaw dropping.

We start our adventure in Merano, a picturesque town in the South Tyrol region, nestled within the Italian Alps. Known for its mild climate and thermal spas. Merano boasts beautiful gardens, historic castles, and a charming old town with medieval arcades. Its unique blend of Austrian and Italian cultures is reflected in the local cuisine, architecture, and festivals.

Onto Ortisei where our hotel has views of the surrounding mountains while being a short stroll into town.

Here we will enjoy all that the mountains have to offer in the summer months, from hiking to swimming in Italy’s cleanest lake, Volser Weiher Lake.

Our hikes take us the some of the most spectacular viewpoints including one of the most iconic ridgelines in the Dolomites, the Seceda ridgeline.

If you have never been to the Dolomites, we guarantee this will not be your last visit.

TRIP ITINERARY

Day 2 - Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
Following breakfast we depart for the short 2km walk to The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle cover an area of 12 hectares and extend over an altitude difference of 100 metres, offering a stunning view of the 80 different garden landscapes, of the city of Merano/Meran and of the surrounding mountain ranges. The gently meandering paths through the garden offer visitors the opportunity to explore four garden worlds home to plants from all over the world, across sunny terraces and past gurgling stream waters.
Meals: B, D

Day 3 - Col de Flam walk 5km walk & Volser Weiher Lake
Following breakfast we depart for Ortisei, on our way we will make a stop at Volser Weiher Lake, considered the cleanest swimming lake in Italy. Situated in surrounds of Dolomite mountains it is simply stunning. Opportunity for a dip for those who bring their togs!

From the lake we head to our hotel and check in. We will head off for an afternoon loop walk close to Ortisei which takes us through a beautiful woodland area which beautifully showcases the landscape of Ortisei. Through the forest and then along the river this is one of our favourite walks.
Meals: B, D

Day 4 - Seceda Ridgeline Hike
Today we hike what is arguably the most beautiful trail in Italy, the Seceda, with its jaw-dropping ridge line showcasing the Dolomites dramatically beautiful spear-like peaks.

Seceda Ridgeline Hike – 12-15km - Moderate
This walk departs from Ortisei, where we take the Ortisei-Furnes gondola and then the Furnes-Seceda cable car.

For those who want to do the circular hike, this hike has a fair bit of uphill, but the trails are solid and well-constructed. It isn’t a technical hike, but it does require some fitness as the trails are at a relatively steep incline. There is the choice for a group to do a shorter and less intense walk, or as our local guides say, the tranquila walk! This is more a meadow style walk, still spectacular but without the steep inclines and declines.
Distance: 12km loop, Time: 4hrs, Ascent: 466m, Highest Point 2500m
Meals: B, D

Day 5 - Seiser Alm Walk
Morning hike on the largest high alpine pasture in Europe, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Seiser Alm. Following breakfast we take the short walk into Ortisei where we take the funicular up to the start of our walk.
Following the walk you can wander around the village for lunch before we return to the hotel to relax and enjoy the wellness areas before dinner.
Meals: B, D

Seiser Alm Walk - Circular trail around the Alpe di Siusi area 10-12km - Level: Easy UNESCO World Natural Heritage since 2009.
This flat trail develops across mountain meadows to the Sanon Hut. After a gentle climb, you will reach the Sonne chairlift which will take us to the starting point. The circuit offers a stunning scenic view over the Sassolungo Group, the Sella massif and the Sciliar. Distance:

Approx 12km which includes our walk from the hotel to the funicular, Time: 3hrs, Ascent: 208m, Highest Point 2006m Sella massif and the Sciliar. Distance: 5.3km, Time: 1.5hrs, Ascent: 208m, Highest Point 2006m

What our guests are saying…

  • Absolutely loved our trip with Solobike. Kerri and Darren strike a great balance in organised activites that showcase the different regions with enough personal time to explore. Will be keenly looking out for where the next swim/hike trip is going.

    Alison & Mike Rochow 2023

  • We had a fantastic time with Solo Bike in Lake Garda and the Dolomites. Kerri couldn’t have been a better, more attentive host and the group was active, engaged and meshed together magnificently. The town of Sirmione was a revelation and we were able to swim in the crystal clear and warm Lake Garda literally from the Hotel deck every morning. The hiking in the Dolomites was if anything even more stunning. It is hard to imagine a more beautiful place anywhere than Seceda Ridge. We could not recommend Kerri or Solo Bike more highly.

Greg Hunt & Paula Lindsey Lake Garda & Dolomites 2024

  • David and I have recently returned from glorious trip with solo bike and have nothing but praise for this company Visited Sirmione for swim indulgence and Italian alps for jaw dropping views and mountain walks. Combination of organised activities and free time to wander and explore. Company of a dozen others was marvellous and food and accommodation outstanding. All perfect magical and beautifully led by Kerri from Solobike
