  • The Swims

    We begin our swim journey at Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a picturesque coastal town situated in the heart of the Costa Brava, in northeastern Catalonia. Known for its stunning crystal clear beaches, Sant Feliu de Guíxols offers a perfect location for the Marnaton Open water swim event which offers the opportunity to cross the Freu, a pass no more than 5 m wide and 10 m high that will make for an unforgettable experience. Distances of 12 km, 6 km, 1.5 km.

    We will also have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters of Lake Banyoles, the largest natural lake in the region and one of the most significant freshwater bodies in the Iberian Peninsula.

    Our remaining swims take place at the iconic La Concha beach at San Sebastian. Here we have local guides and support for our swims ranging from 3-4km (shorter swim options available if numbers permit). The maps of our swims can be found below.

  • The Walks

    Our first walk takes us around Lake Banyoles, which offers a diverse range of scenery, including lush forests, reed beds, and clear waters, as well as views of the charming town of Banyoles and the surrounding hills. This walk is approximately 7 kms and the path is mostly flat.

    Our second walk, the Pasarelas de Alquézar is a breathtaking walk located in the picturesque village of Alquézar, within the Sierra de Guara Natural Park in Aragón, Spain. This scenic route features a series of suspended walkways and bridges that offer stunning views of the Vero River Gorge, showcasing the area's rugged cliffs and lush vegetation.

    Our final walk is from San Sebastián to Pasajes de San Juan, also known as the "Camino de Santiago" is a picturesque hike along the stunning Basque coastline in northern Spain. This trail is approximately 7 kilometers one-way and combines the vibrant atmosphere of San Sebastián with the serene beauty of the Basque coast.

TRIP ITINERARY

Spain, full of energy, welcoming & vibrant people and diverse landscapes. We start our trip in the proud region of Catalunya, an autonomous community in northeastern Spain, renowned for its vibrant culture, rich history, unique language, and stunning landscapes. Here we stay in Girona a small city known for its beautiful architecture. Moving south to the stunning Costa Brava where we spend a few days at the seaside town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols where we will take part in an organised open water event*.

We then head north to Alquézar, located in Huesca, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, within the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park renowned for its stunning cliffside location, historic castle, and the breathtaking Pasarelas de Alquézar walk through the Vero River Gorge.

Finally, we finish in the vibrant and beautiful San Sebastian celebrated for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culinary scene, and charming Old Town, making it a beloved destination for both relaxation and gastronomy.

Wednesday June 25th – Arrival Girona
Independent arrival.
Enjoy exploring this walled city before welcome drinks and dinner as a group.

Thursday June 26th – Lake Banyoles walk - 7km and optional swim
Today we take a short private transfer to the beautiful Lake Banyoles, the largest natural lake in Catalunya, it is fed by underground water sources from the neighbouring mountains of Alta Garrotxa. We will walk the flat perimeter of the lake before cooling off for a swim in its beautiful azure waters.

Friday June 27th - Sant Feliu de Guíxols
Following breakfast, we transfer down to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a seaside town on the Costa Brava. You will have time to walk into town, take a swim or enjoy our beautiful accommodation with pool looking out to the sea.

Saturday June 28th – Marnaton Open water event*
The plan is to participate in the Marnaton Sant Feliu de Guíxols event. The dates for the 2025 event are released in October. If our dates don’t coincide, we will have an organised swim with the group.

Sunday June 29th – Alquezar
Following breakfast we depart for Alquezar a uniquely beautiful village situated in the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park. This hilltop village sits on the edge of the Pyrenees, attracting many hikers to the area.

Monday June 30th – Pasarelas de Alquezar walk approx. 2hrs
This is a spectacular walk with suspended walkways & footbridges along a scenic gorge with turquoise water. It showcases Río Vero Canyon, with the striking combination of water and rock in unique natural formations. It does have some difficult areas to navigate but more than achievable if you are a seasoned walker used to varying terrain. If it is not too hot we will aim to offer an additional (optional) walk in the late afternoon.

Tuesday July 1 – Transfer to San Sebastian
Following breakfast we depart for our final destination of San Sebastain where we stay less than 100 metres from the seafront promenade and La Concha beach, Hotel Zenit Convento San Martín rests behind the classical façade of an old convent built in 1887. Spend the afternoon exploring this vibrant city before a group dinner.

Wednesday July 2 – Guided Morning Swim 3.5km & San Sebastian to Pasajes de San Juan walk 9.6km
Following breakfast we head off on our first guided swim which takes us around the Island of Santa Clara, the magical island on view from La Concha beach. There will also be an option for a shorter swim.

Late morning we will depart for our walk to Passages de San Juan, a small section of the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. The walk takes us to this charming fishing village and goes along the sea on the Ulía mountain. The walk is considered to be moderate difficulty an elevation of 430m and with some climbs along the way.

Thursday July 3 - Around the Bay Swim - 4.15km & Monte Igueldo walk
Following breakfast we enjoy a longer 4.15km guided swim which takes us around La Concha Bay. There will be an option for a shorter swim. In the afternoon we will have an optional walk to Monte Igueldo for the best views of San Sebastián.

Girona - 4 Star Hotel Nord

In the historic and commercial heart of Girona, in an old building completely restored in 2009, our boutique hotel offers sophisticated rooms equipped to the very last detail. The hotel has the only garden with swimming pool in the city centre. There is also the option of an apartment for families.

Accommodation

Cost Brava- 4 Star Hotel Eden Roc

The hotel is located on the Camino de Ronda, in Port Salvi. It offers an exceptional view of the Mediterranean Sea, which gives the hotel a privileged and unique location. All rooms will provide a sea view. Hotel Eden Roc’s restaurant serves Mediterranean food and looks out over the gardens. You can walk to the centre of Sant Feliu in 15 minutes.

Alquézar - 3 star Hotel Villa de Alquézar

In the very heart of the village, Hotel Villa de Alquézar is a restored historic building. From each of its rooms the hotel exudes peace, friendliness and relaxation. The picturesque old town of Alquézar is nestled within the most amazing of the protected areas in Aragon: “Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park”. After a busy day visiting Alquézar there is nothing more relaxing than a glass of wine in the privacy of your own terrace, going for a relaxing swim in the swimming pool or just enjoying the hotel’s natural setting.

San Sebastián- 4 star Hotel Zenit Convento San Martín

Positioned less than 100 metres from the seafront promenade and La Concha beach, Hotel Zenit Convento San Martín rests at the very heart of San Sebastián behind the classical façade of an old convent built in 1887 using stones from the Igeldo quarry for the congregation of the Servants of Mary. Enjoy a drink and swim on the rooftop pool and bar after a busy day swimming and walking.
